Having spent some time with the group I am working with for this project, it seems we have started to build the foundation for our photoshoot next week. The location and model have been chosen and tomorrow afternoon we will be meeting up to pick out some outfits and props. Now that we have a general theme to our shoot its all kind of falling into place.
so far our original ideas are to have a kind of fairytale woodland set, which is why we have chosen to shoot in fairy glen (wigan). the plan is to construct a set around the chosen scene using fairy lights, ornate bird cages and possible a smoke machine etc. inspiration for this is all very Tim Walker in terms of set design. The clothing with be neutral colours like peach, light pink, beige etc. and this will consist of vintage style underwear, floaty dresses and fur coats. Make up for the model will be done for free by either benefit or dior in boots and we will use the portable lighting kits to light the photos. aswel as this flowers will be some how placed around the set up (as there will be none in january!) and possibly in the models hair.

for me these are the most inspirational Tim Walker images

I've been following this guy on deviantart.com for years now. I had to include him in my blog because some of his photos are amazing!

what I really love about this photo is the background. The print of the dress kind of matches the scuffed, scratchy look of the backdrop and also the fact that the photo is in black and white which helps keep all the attention on the texture of the photo rather than the distractions from the colours.

I don't particularly like the clothing or the model in this photo, but it reminded me of my last lesson when the teacher talked about placing two images together to create a narrative. For example with this photo of the model next to the photo of the bicycle in a field. I think that this technique can be extremely affective within fashion and so maybe I should keep this in mind for the next project. Also I should take note of the fact that the image of the bike is alot smaller than the other image, I think that this is so the main focus is on the larger photo, creating a sort of hierarchy.

I saw this a while back and just re-stumbled back across it.

OLDIES

Here's a small collection of old work i've sifted through with louise as my model. Lou has been modeling for me since college and so she has become one of my favourite people to take photographs of.

I was pretty unsure about this shoot, but there is deffinately something that I like. The narrative feels very alien-esk, which is cool. the hair extentions on the knees and shoulders of the model in the second photo reminds me of a video I saw ages ago by Nick Knight. I'll try to find it later.

2010

Below is a list of photographers who are going to be a massive influence on the work i'm hoping to create this year:
Richard Avedon
Charlotte March
Irving Penn
Man Ray
Mario Testino
Paolo Roversi
Ellen Von Unwerth
amongst many others

I'm planning to do alot of experimentation with black and white through the mediums of film and digital, for me my ultimate and all time inspiration has to be Paolo Roversi. And so here is the link to an article I found about him and how he uses light to take a photograph.

picture of the week

I've just got back to Preston today and so haven't currently done any new work yet. However I have just finished a 35mm film which I put in my holga, so i've yet to get those developed. I'm also half way through a 120mm film, so as soon I sort my life out i'll post them here! :)
The only other thing to do is show my picture of the week, taken by Polish photographer Genassee:much love x
